New Call for Bush Administration to Plug Drug-Smugglign Hole at U.S./Mexico Border

The El Paso Times writes that it's "important that the Bush administration begins plugging this border drug-smuggling hole." The paper's staff raises concern about wait time at border crossing stations, while acknowledging the obvious challenges: "We now know the consequences. Customs now must take more time checking vehicles, and persons walking across the bridge, because there is a likelihood that more drugs are crossing than before."

The solution they identify: "We need more agents, and we need more lanes open so there can be enhanced security checks while not holding up the so-important commerce we depend upon for our economy."

In July MATT.org columnist E.J. Rangel wrote "The Drug War is a Bi-National Issue."
And in March he wrote about the new Mexican president's aggressive work on the issue in a column titled "Drug Crackdown Right on Target."
