RE-THINK IMMIGRATION

contentious policy issue of our time: immigration.

The mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, said today that instituting immigration restrictions would be "insane," reports a blog of the New York Sun.

From the post—

"There are people around the world who want to come and create here and add jobs and excitement and innovation, and we're keeping them in Canada and in Europe and Asia and not letting them here," Mr. Bloomberg said (...)

In the past, Mr. Bloomberg has strongly criticized efforts to crack down on illegal immigration, saying the American economy depends on immigrants to survive.

Many look to Bloomberg, who has belonged to both the Democratic and Republican parties and is now registered as an Independent, as emblematic of those whose opinions aren't entirely aligned with the major political parties.

Insanity seems to run deep in the pro-illegal, pro-immigration folks like Bloomberg who has no need to live among the rabble or put up with the Tower of Babel here in America. Bloomberg, like some many others is unable or unwilling to extrapolate to the future what his open borders, take all comers, everyone represents an imaginative and creative mind that we can't do without idiocy will mean. A convenient omission in his reasoning. Perhaps he has forgotten that countries like Germany are thriving even though the fertility rate of their women is less than the replacement level. He also fails to explain how finite natural resources can be spread over a population that is increasing without bounds without impacting our quality of life and standard of living. Rich people are often clever in the ways that they accumulate their wealth but are not a good source of wisdom for us lesser mortals regarding how we should live our lives and what policies we wish our government to pursue.

Ulty, he's just concerned there won't be enough gardeners to keep his favorite golf course looking good. Who cares if middle and working-class American kids have to suffer degraded schools and dangerous neighborhoods?

Because he is a trained engineer, Mr. Bloomberg is fond of asking his political opponents to support their position by saying this: "Show me the data." In other words, show me the hard evidence (cold hard data) that supports your position. If he feels that the American economy can't function without a steady flow of newcomers, then he needs to meet the standard of proof that he demands of others: "Show me the data." We can discuss the alleged value of increased immigration, but show me the evidence of how the American economy would NOT survive without them. And if such evidence DOES exist, then it means that our economy is really just one big "Ponzi scheme" (aka, pyramid-scheme) that only benefits the existing people as long as more and more new people (immigrants) are brought in, and buy into the scheme.
