This week D.C. plays host to the Reform Immigration for America Summit. At this very moment advocates and organizers are working on a plan to push Congress  for the passage of just and humane immigration reform this year.

The Summit looks impressive, including 400 leaders from the immigrant community, labor, and faith organizations from around the country. In fact, it's the largest convening of pro-immigrant organizers and allies in Washington this year.Latina Lista praises the event because "a true collaborative effort is being made among labor, faith, civil rights, business and immigrant rights groups to come up with a common strategy to reach their goal."

Given that numerous studies show Americans want comprehensive reform, including this one just released by the Pew Center the timing is right. And I tend to agree with the kos, who says:

Can there possibly be a bigger win-win? The American people strongly support what is a moral and practical imperative -- to bring 12 million undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and integrate them into our society. Now all we need is our politicians to do the right thing. Obama has promised to move on this issue by the end of the year. There's no reason Congress shouldn't offer enthusiastic bipartisan support.

The real question is, will it really happen this year?
